We're More Than Electricity, We're Service

On May 21, 2020, Sawnee EMC’s Board of Directors approved the suspension of a planned base rate increase, which would have otherwise impacted Sawnee EMC residential accounts and certain commercial accounts. The increase will now be postponed until April of 2021.

The Sawnee EMC Board of Directors and staff recognize that many members have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and some continue to experience financial hardships.

The planned base rate increase, originally scheduled to go into effect on April 2, 2020, was first rescheduled at the beginning stages of the pandemic to take effect later in 2020. With the Board’s latest action, the revised effective date will not occur until April of 2021.

“We are committed to assisting our members through the difficulties that arise from the COVID-19 pandemic,” states Michael A. Goodroe, President and CEO.  “We always strive to be good stewards of our member’s patronage.  We are currently well positioned to institute this delay, and all involved feel this is the right action in light of the challenges our members are currently facing,” he further adds.

Like other electric utilities nationwide, Sawnee EMC’s base charge is assessed through its monthly billing process.  The base charge encompasses the fixed cost of electric service needed to serve every home and business, as well as the upkeep of the electrical system, which includes items such as lines, poles, meters, and distribution improvements for greater reliability.

Sawnee EMC thanks its members for their support and are taking this and other proactive measures to lessen the effects COVID-19 is having on them and their families.

Questions about the base charge deferment can be directed to Sawnee EMC’s Customer Call Center at 770-887-2363, text 678-999-8124 or email at customerservice@sawnee.com.
