The tribute to Hatcher Hurd penned by Ray Appen (February 22) was touching and well-deserved. Hatcher was a treasure who did not shrink from the truth but who wrote with style, humor and sensitivity.

Reading his columns and articles became a weekly habit for many people in North Fulton. As Mr. Appen said, Hatcher (everyone called him Hatcher, not Mr. Hurd) had a passion for journalism and his “honesty, integrity and spirit” will not be forgotten.

Hatcher will be missed, but he left an indelible imprint on our community. Farewell to one of the great ones.
