Robert Mongeau, 81, passed away Sunday June 24, 2018 in Alpharetta, GA after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Robert (Bob), born in Boston, MA on July 20, 1936 to Alice Irene and Leo Raymond Mongeau was their only child but was loved by many.
Bob was raised in Lowell, MA and attended The Taft School in Watertown, CT then Hamilton College in Clinton, NY where he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Bob was an avid golfer from an early age and played on the golf team at both Taft and Hamilton. He was also co-captain of the undefeated 1958 football team at Hamilton -- an athletic accomplishment he was quite proud of.
After college Bob returned to Lowell to begin his career and marry the love of his life Grace Elaine Dusseault who he had known since he was thirteen years old. Early in his career as a life insurance agent, Bob worked for CNA Financial Corporation and Guardian Life Insurance Company of America. Later as a CLU, Bob started his own firms RCM Insurance Agency then Life Brokerage, LLC. Through the years, Bob pursued his love of golf with Elaine by his side. Together they traveled the globe and played some of the world’s most majestic courses including The Old Course at St. Andrews, Carnoustie, TPC Sawgrass and Pebble Beach, to name just a few.
Bob was a member of numerous professional and honorary societies including The Rotary, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, The American Red Cross and Lafayette Club. Bob was also a lifetime member and past president (1995-1996) of Vesper Country Club in Tyngsboro, MA. While living in Naples, FL from 1985 – 2015, Bob and Elaine were active golf members at The Hideout, Vineyards, Bonita Bay and Pelican Marsh clubs.
Bob is survived by Elaine, his loving wife of 57 years and six children Elaine Alice Beers (Richard), Suzanne Elizabeth Pacey (Kurt), Nancy Lynne Kelleher, Barbara Jeanne Ghent (Chuck), Jacqueline Mongeau Segars (Alan) and Peter Mongeau (Karen). Bob will also be fondly remembered by his eleven grandchildren Christina, Tanner, Julianna (Michael) Hirsch, Megan, Blake (RT) Fisk, Katherine, Macnair, Grace, Nakia, Andrew and Sarah and two great-grandchildren Elijah and Mara.
A celebration of his life was held at 4:30pm, Thursday June 28, 2018 at Alpharetta Presbyterian Church, 180 Academy Street Alpharetta, GA 30009. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Robert’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) or the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund
