MILTON, Ga. — A Milton man was alerted to someone opening a credit card using his identity after receiving a letter stating he owed nearly $11,000. 

The victim said he received a letter from Fifth Third Bank on May 31 stating his account was being turned over to a debt collection agency. 

The man visited a branch of the bank and spoke with a representative who said someone had used his former home address, name, date of birth and Social Security number to open the account August 2018. The card had last been used in April.
