MILTON, Ga. — A Milton man reported to police an unknown person placed an envelope containing $2,000 in cash in his mailbox on June 13.

The homeowner said a car driven by a man pulled up to his mailbox around 4 p.m. The person then placed a Chase Bank envelope in his mailbox.

The homeowner said he retrieved his mail around three hours later and discovered the envelope contained $100 bills.

Police told the man the unknown person could have been involved in an investment scam in which victims are told to place cash they want to invest in a mailbox before meeting a person claiming to be an investor at another location. The money is then taken from the mailbox, and scammers end communication with victims.

Police said two homes near the man’s property have been used as drop-off points in the scam.
