JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — Police are investigating an incident in which a man lost $1,000 to a person who pretended to be leasing a Leasingham Way home.

Through a translator, the victim said someone on Craigslist claimed to be the homeowner. The victim paid a $1,000 down payment to the alleged scammer and was instructed to retrieve the keys from a lockbox at the house.

At the house, the victim realized the home was for sale by a separate company. The lock box was broken. The victim gave police “David Michael’s” email address and a lease agreement that did not appear legitimate.
