Johns Creek's girls team earned a 14-4 win over Kennessaw Mountain May 2 to advance to the second round of the Class 6A-7A playoffs. 

NORTH FULTON/FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — The GHSA state lacrosse playoffs began with first round games played May 1-2. Eighteen North Fulton and Forsyth County teams earned berths in the second round which is slated to be played May 6-7.

Class 6A-7A boys

Centennial 12, Pope 6: After a close first half, Centennial scored four goals in the third period and added three in the fourth to advance.

The Knights face crosstown rival Roswell in the second round.

Roswell 22, McEachern 4: Roswell punched its ticket to the second round with a lopsided win over McEachern on May 1.

The Hornets host Centennial in the second round.

West Forsyth 8, Collins Hill 4: West Forsyth jumped out to a 5-0 lead at the half and kept Collins Hill to four goals to secure a berth in the second round for the second time in three years.

The Wolverines will host Woodstock in the second round.

Walton 12, Johns Creek 10: Johns Creek’s season came to an end May 1 with the Gladiators falling to Walton on the road. The contest was tied 6-6 at the half but Walton earned the second half edge to take the close win.

Johns Creek compiled a 10-8 record this season and placed third in Area 3.

South Forsyth 18, Mountain View 4: South Forsyth scored 14 goals in the first half and cruised to a win in the first round May 1 against Mountain View.

The War Eagles will go on the road to take on Area 5 champions Etowah in the second round.

Lambert 17, Parkview 1: Lambert earned a decisive win over Parkview May 2 to begin their quest for a second straight championship.

The Longhorns will host Allatoona in the second round.

Milton 17, Newnan 2: Milton dispatched Newnan in decisive fashion May 1 to keep their state title run hopes alive. The Eagles scored nine goals in the second half and held Newnan to a single goal in each half.

The Eagles will go on the road against North Gwinnett in the second round.  

Hillgrove 13, Cambridge 9: Cambridge held a three-goal lead at the half, but Hillgrove outscored the Bears 7-3 in the second half to take the win May 2.

The Bears compiled a 7-11 overall record this season.

Lassiter 9, Northview 2: Northview was held to two goals against defending state runner-up Lassiter May 2 to end the Titans’ season.

Northview went 8-11 overall this season.

 

Class 6A-7A girls

Centennial 14, Pope 13 (OT): Centennial survived an overtime thriller with Pope May 1 to punch its ticket to the second round. Pope scored five unanswered goals late in the second half to tie the game and eventually force overtime before the Knights’ Emily McHenry scored the overtime game-winning goal.

The Knights face Milton in the second round.

Milton 19, East Coweta 1: Defending state champions Milton dispatched East Coweta in the first round May 1 to begin their quest for a 13th state title.

The Eagles host fellow North Fulton squad Centennial in the second round.

Mountain View 12, Lambert 10: Lambert’s season ended May 2 with the Longhorns coming up short against Mountain View.

Lambert compiled an 8-9 overall record this season.

Walton 21, Chattahoochee 10: Chattahoochee’s late-season hot streak ended in the first round of the playoffs with the Cougars dropping their matchup with Walton.

The Cougars compiled a 14-4 overall record this season.

Alpharetta 11, Hillgrove 10: Alpharetta earned a narrow win over Area 3 champions Hillgrove May 2 to punch its ticket to the next round.

The Raiders face Walton on the road next week.

West Forsyth 26, Brookwood 6: Area 6 champs West Forsyth earned a convincing win over Brookwood May 2 to keep their season alive.

West will host Allatoona in the second round.

Johns Creek 14, Kennesaw Mountain 4: The Gladiators led 12-2 at the half and doubled their scoring in the second frame May 2 to earn a trip to the second round.

Johns Creek faces Cambridge in the second round. The Gladiators downed the Bears 16-10 on Feb. 14.

Cambridge 17, Northgate 4: Cambridge led 10-0 at the half and earned a lopsided win over Northgate May 1 to advance to the second round.

The Bears face Johns Creek in the second round.

Roswell 16, Harrison 13: Roswell earned a first-round win for the second straight season with a 16-13 win over Harrison May 2.

The Hornets will host Area 4 No. 4 seed North Gwinnett next week.

 

Class A-5A boys

Blessed Trinity 18, Mount de Sales 0: Blessed Trinity earned a shutout win and lit up the scoreboard at home against Mount de Sales May 1.

The Area 5 champion Titans will host McIntosh in the second round.

Fellowship Christian 27, First Presbyterian Day 3: Fellowship Christian earned its program’s first playoff win May 2 with a lopsided win over First Presbyterian Day.

The Paladins host Trinity Christian in the next round.

Marist 14, Pinecrest Academy 4: Pinecrest Academy played its first playoff contest May 1 but fell to Area 1 champions Marist to end the Paladins’ season.

Marist led 7-1 at the half and added five goals in the fourth period to secure the win.

Mount Pisgah 15, Savannah Country Day 1: Mount Pisgah dispatched Savannah Country Day in decisive fashion May 2 for the squad’s 14th win of the season.

The Patriots will go on the road against Are 7 champions Woodward Academy in the second round.

 

Class A-5A girls

Blessed Trinity (BYE): Blessed Trinity earned a bye in the first round by capturing the Area 5 championship. The Titans will host Whitewater in the second round.  

King’s Ridge 13, Columbus 6: King’s Ridge made the most of its first playoff appearance May 2 and earned the program’s first postseason by downing Columbus Area 8 champions Columbus.

The Tigers go on the road to face McIntosh in the second round.

Fellowship Christian 25, Stratford Academy 0: Fellowship put on a dominant performance in the first round May 1, shutting out Stratford while scoring their highest goal total of the season.

The Paladins will battle Union Grove on the road next week.
