Milton launches Citizens Government Academy

MILTON, Ga. — Milton will soon begin its Citizens Government Academy, a seven-week course providing an in-depth look at the many functions of municipal government. Classes will meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 16, 2018. Meetings will be held at City Hall and various government buildings in Milton, allowing participants to fully experience all city facilities.

Through a combination of presentations and hands-on projects, participants will learn about vital community services including emergency services, law enforcement, planning and zoning, finance and budget, court systems, public works, special projects, parks and recreation and more.

Participants will have the opportunity to connect with their local officials and city staff who provide these services. Weekly instructors will vary depending upon the city service or department being covered that week.

The inaugural class will be limited to 15 participants, who must be at least 21 years old and a Milton resident or business owner.

After the inaugural class has been filled, additional applications will begin filling the second cohort tentatively scheduled to launch on or about May 1, 2018.
