Zakucia to play Division I lacrosse at UMass-Lowell

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — Chattahoochee High School’s Nick Zakucia has signed a national letter of intent to play NCAA Division I Lacrosse at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, where he plans to pursue a doctorate in physical therapy. Zakucia will play defense for the inaugural River Hawks lacrosse team and will compete in the America East Conference.

Zakucia, a four-year letterman and starter for the Cougars, was named to the 2013 Georgia 6A All-State Honorable Mention Team as well as to the 2013 DI Varsity All-Star Team. As a defenseman, Zakucia helped Chattahoochee reach the Georgia 4A state quarterfinals in 2012 and the Georgia 6A state quarterfinals in 2013. Zakucia, a Cougar-2-Cougar mentor, was selected to be the head coach of both the fall 2012 U13 Jr. Cougar lacrosse team as well as the fall 2013 U15 Jr. Cougar lacrosse team.

In addition to playing for his high school, Zakucia has played club lacrosse for Liam Banks and LB3-Atlanta for four years and was also a member of Team Georgia for the past two years. As a member of LB3’s 2014 Elite Team, he most recently played tournament lacrosse at the 2013 Syracuse Shootout, 2013 Philly Invitational, 2013 Academic Aces in Swarthmore, Pa., 2013 Under Armor Shootout in Baltimore and was selected to the 2012 and 2013 All-Star Teams for the Southeastern Showcase in Atlanta.
