ALPHARETTA, GA. – The showdown was at North Point Mall, the local Mecca of retail shopping. And what better backdrop could there by to the gift-wrapping duel between Roswell Mayor Jere Wood with his wife, Judie Raiford, against Alpharetta Mayor and his wife, Sally.
The contest was another concoction of the Roswell and Alpharetta convention and visitors bureaus, who roped the mayors into this wrap-off to see who could wrap the most gifts in 19 minutes, which gift would be best wrapped, and which was worst.
It was all to promote “The Holidays along the Divine 9,” Roswell and Alpharetta’s guide to 84 holiday shopping and entertainment events along Highway 9 (or quite nearby) that links the two cities.
They mayors agreed to a friendly wrap concert Monday, Oct. 17, to see which couple could wrap fastest, wrap nicest and which one just made the biggest mess.
Mayor Wood edged Mayor Letchas 28-25 in the speed division, but Alpharetta’s honor was sustained bringing home Best Wrapped. Worst wrapped went to the Roswell side, but in truth, that one could have gone either way.
The $1,000 in toys used for the wrap-off now goes to North Fulton Community Charities to wind up under a deserving tree this Christmas.
