JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Wilson Creek Elementary fifth-grade girls and their parents or guardians recently enjoyed a “Girls’ Night Out” program in the Wilson Creek media center.
The program, hosted by Wilson Creek counselor Alexcia Massey and school psychologist Melissa Hines, was designed to help young girls learn how to stand up for themselves and respond responsibly.
Participants watched an American Girl movie, “Chrissa Stands Strong,” and enjoyed socializing with other girls. The goal of the “Girls’ Night Out” program was to SHINE:
S – Stand up to put-downs.
H – Help those who are being bullied.
I – Inform adults when needed.
N – Never use a computer or cellphone to hurt others.
E – Encourage friends to stand up against bullying, too.
