VIDEO: Avalon's special ground breaking event Jan. 28

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- North American Properities, along with city of Alpharetta, state and county government leaders joined in the ground breaking ceremony of Avalon Jan.28.

Demolition and site work started on the $600 million dollar mixed-use development on Ga. 400's exit 10.

The first phase will open summer 2014, Mark Toro, the developer who helped bring Atlantic Station to Midtown Atlanta told eager guests at the ground breaking ceremony.

Construction crews tore down a decrepit parking garage, once called Prospect Park, that a former developer wanted to build, but ran out of steam and funds when the housing market crashed.

Avalon plans include a town center with a luxury hotel, Regal movie theater and Whole Foods grocery, plus apartments and single-family houses.
