FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office honored two deputies with the 2012 Deputy of the Year award for their integrity, tenacity and work ethic.

North Precinct Deputy First Class Troy Embrey and South Precinct Deputy First Class Ted Baxter were awarded the Deputies of the Year honors at a ceremony held at the sheriff’s headquarters March 21.

“I just wanted to thank both of these deputies for the amazing job they do,” said Capt. Mark Hoffman, uniform patrol section commander. “They are great ambassadors for our agency and their shifts, and they do a good job with the deputies they work with.”

In August 2012, Baxter won the Deputy of the Month honors after catching a thief in the act taking a catalytic converter from a local business. Theft of catalytic converters is a problem for law enforcement as thieves sell the items for its copper.

Embrey won Deputy of the Month awards in February 2012 for his crime investigation skills, in March for finding a missing Alzheimer’s patient and in September for his swift recognition and attention to a severely injured motorcyclist.

Sheriff Duane Piper said the Deputy of the Year also promotes and motivates the office.

“It’s a morale builder within the agency,” Piper said. “What the agency gets out of it is better service of the community.”

Embrey thanked his family for their support and his supervisors who taught him what he knows.

“I see a lot of wonderful faces in this room and I have learned a lot from each and every one of you,” Embrey said. “It’s just humbling to know the quality of people around this room and that all the long hours paid off.”

Baxter also thanked his family, the office and county.

Baxter’s wife, Aimee, said their family is excited and proud of him for his exceptional work and desire to better the community.

“He always gives 100 percent when he is on the job,” Aimee Baxter said. “I see that, and I know how much he loves it. I’m sure they must see that too.”
