CUMMING, Ga. — A thief made a mess of a neighborhood’s mail between Nov. 20 and 21.
Mail was stolen and moved around from several mailboxes in the Grove Park subdivision, according to Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office reports.
A United States Postal Service carrier told deputies while on his route through the subdivision, he noticed the wrong mail in mailboxes. The postal carrier said some of the mail was open and some of it was not.
The carrier delivered the unopened mail to the correct mailboxes and made contact with the people whose mail was opened.
As the deputy patrolled the neighborhood, he found two empty department store boxes. A resident at the home they were addressed to said the contents were a baby-monitor valued at $280.
A woman in the 1200 block of Spring Oak Way told the deputy her mailbox had a plain manila envelope in it, stuffed with other people’s mail.
Another woman in the 1100 block of Spring Oak Way said her husband was awake and outside at 3:30 a.m. Nov. 21 and saw a white truck driving slowly through the neighborhood and stopping in front of all the homes.
In another incident reported Nov. 21, a man in the 2400 block of Churchill Downs, who had been away since Nov. 3, told deputies that when he checked his mail several items were opened and the contents were missing from two packages.
The perpetrator opened several holiday cards and a body-building magazine subscription. The empty packages contained a $70 charger for the victim’s truck and $40 worth of printer cartridges.
A third incident report stated that between Nov. 24 and 25, a package containing an ornament was stolen from the 3300 block of Lake Shore Drive.
The ornament was a gift sent to victim by his mother and was valued at $50.
