Students from Wilson Creek Elementary in Johns Creek love their Caldecott books

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Wilson Creek Elementary students have read 2,886 Caldecott Medal books so far during the 2012-2013 school year, and they show no signs of stopping.

Each year, the Wilson Creek media center sponsors a Caldecott Medal Reading Club for students in kindergarten and first grade. To be eligible to join the Caldecott Medal Club, students must read or have read to them at least 20 Caldecott Medal books (gold or silver medal winners) and record the titles on a special reading log.

Wilson Creek students are encouraged to read Caldecott Medal books because of their wonderful illustrations. Students learn about the high-quality, award-winning books during media center lessons about the role the author and illustrator play in creating books.

The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of 19th century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott.
