JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Student Leadership Johns Creek (SLJC) is a two-year program for emerging leaders in sophomore and junior classes who live in Johns Creek and attend Northview, Chattahoochee, Centennial or Johns Creek High School.
At the kickoff retreat Aug. 7, class members explored how to define mission, vision and core values. As a result of their work, students developed the class mission statement, “Evolving our leadership through creating and inspiring other leaders to benefit the community.”
Leadership skills will be developed and then utilized in the completion of community service projects. During the program, students will focus on implementing, at their respective schools and communities, the leadership skills learned. The hope is for students to become catalysts for change in their schools and communities.
This diverse group of young adults will be introduced to a core curriculum of leadership skills including goal setting, project management, team building, and communication skills. Opportunities will be provided to explore local, county and state government as well as local nonprofit organizations. Students will be able to identify areas of need within the community where they can put their leadership skills and knowledge into practice by planning and implementing community service projects. Graduates will then facilitate leadership training and development at their respective schools, under advisement of the school’s faculty sponsor.
