FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — South Forsyth High School’s varsity competition cheerleading squad has been awarded the Georgia Cheerleading Coaches Association Cheerleading Team of the Year for 2012.
The award recognizes the top-ranked and most committed, successful programs throughout the state, and is usually dedicated to recognizing outstanding athletes and coaches. This year also awarded the most outstanding overall cheerleading program.
To qualify for nomination, the team was required to make a video that demonstrated excellence in athletics and community involvement. A panel of judges reviewed all components using a rigorous scoring rubric.
“This award is especially significant as it represents our South Forsyth varsity competition cheerleading squad’s dedication to excellence across community service, academics and athletic performance,” said coach Shayla Brawner. “I am very proud of our well-rounded squad of athlete leaders for receiving this recognition at the state level.”
Team members, Brawner and assistant coaches Rebecca Hewitt and Amber Adams were presented the award at a ceremony held at the Ritz Carlton at Reynolds Plantation March 22.
