South Forsyth students win big at culinary competition

CUMMING, Ga. — Some South Forsyth High School students proved they can take the heat in the kitchen.

On Feb. 20 the Culinary Competition team won first place and gold at the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America’s regional culinary competition.

The culinary square-off was held at Lanier Academy in Gainesville.

Culinary Competition Team members are Senior Nicolette Kirkpatrick, and Juniors Brittany Meier and Corey Nolan.

At the competition, teams were given one hour to prepare a salad and entrée for a panel of FCCLA judges.

Dawn Martin, the culinary arts instructor at South Forsyth said the judges were impressed with the team’s cohesiveness, communication and presentation of their meal. “The SFHS Culinary Competition team practiced for many hours and worked very hard at perfecting their culinary skills,” she said.

The culinary team will compete in the state championship March 16 in Athens.
