CUMMING, Ga. – When South Forsyth High School welcomed students on Aug. 8 for the first day of school, it did so for the 25th time.

The school opened for its inaugural year in 1989 and its first senior class graduated in 1990.

Hence, school officials and community leaders see it fitting to celebrate this achievement with a gala from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Forsyth Conference Center, 3410 Ronald Reagan Boulevard in Cumming.

There will also be a dinner, dancing and silent auction.

The event will be held as a part of the school’s homecoming weekend and will involve alumni and former staff members to celebrate the school’s history, recent achievements and future direction.

On the evening of the gala, attendees are being asked to wear blue and silver. A tour of the South Forsyth campus, 585 Peachtree Parkway, is also planned for attendees.

Since the first class graduated in 1989, South Forsyth HS has grown from 580 students to about 2,500. South Forsyth is also home to more than 200 faculty members, staff and administrators.

Most recently, South Forsyth was ranked 160 in Newsweek’s 2013 list of America’s Best High Schools.

Tickets are $40 and $25 for school system employees and can be purchased at www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/Page/40868.
