Sitting is the new smoking

I wrote this standing up. I want you to try reading it – on your feet.

That's right. Standing is the new sitting. For workplaces, for schools and for homes. And it makes sense, right?

“Sitting is sort of the new smoking,” Dr. James Levine from the Mayo Clinic said when referencing sitting at a desk all day can harm your body and your health.

Levine and a team of researchers from Mayo and the University of Minnesota say that even the modest increases in daily activity could help people lose weight and improve their health. (http://www.startribune.com/lifestyle/wellness/138174639.html)

The average American spent 36 hours on the internet in January, market research firm comScore said earlier this month. (Jeff Hackett, executive vice president of comScore said that among the biggest category gainers in usage were travel, career and tax sites.)

Sitting at a desk is part of most worker's routine nowadays and a new movement has been started to improve workplace ergonomics and health.

What do you think? Should we get rid of the chair and start working and being on our feet more often?
