Scavenger steals scraps by burnt building in north Forsyth County

CUMMING, Ga. — A man picking up scraps of metal was charged with burglary at the site of a burned down property.

Koby Blanchard, 38, of Dawsonville, was charged with felony burglary on July 29 after he was seen placing scraps of metal into a wheel barrow, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s office report.

Blanchard was collecting the scraps even though the property, 3580 Keith Bridge Road, was still under investigation and sectioned off with caution tape.

Blanchard said he entered the burnt building through the back wall and took several items from inside because he had permission to be there. When the owner of the building arrived, she said she did talk to Blanchard, but he was not allowed to clean up anything, because she did not want to compromise the ongoing investigation.

Deputies accused Blanchard of taking $1,000 worth of car parts and metal scraps, a felony.
