FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. —The Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation recently awarded $23,094 to local charities and classroom grants through its Operation Round Up program.
This quarter, the following organizations were part of the fund:
• American Legion Post 307
• Friends of Disabled Adults and Children, Too
• Dawson County Wee Books Program
• Challenged Child and Friends
• Safe Kids Georgia
• Camp Kudzu
• Porter Academy in Fulton County
These programs are made possible by the 20,000-plus generous members of Sawnee EMC that make the decision each month to round their electric bill up to the next highest dollar.
This “extra change” goes directly into the Sawnee Foundation and is gifted back out into the communities Sawnee EMC serves.
The average donation a member makes annually is $6. These donations have allowed the Foundation Board to donate over $1.4 million back into the communities since its inception in 2003.
Sawnee Electric Membership Corporation is an electric distribution cooperative headquartered in Cumming that serves electricity to about 154,400 accounts in seven counties.
Interested applicants are required to submit an application to the foundation board for their consideration.
Teachers can apply for funds through the Bright Ideas program, which is also part of Operation Round Up.
