ROSWELL, Ga. – Roswell has named “Jeff Foxworthy’s Grit Chips” as the official chips of the city.
The announcement was made at the Nov. 14 Roswell City Council meeting and was approved unanimously by council.
“We tried to come up with a unique southern American snack,” said Sean McDonough, owner of Roswell Tap and the Roswell Food Company, which makes the chips. “We just wanted to bring a little bit more of what the South has to offer the rest of the country.”
The “grit chip” is marketed as the first snack chip made of grits. The Roswell Food Company is a new business for the city and has begun making and selling the chips nationwide.
“I have had the grit chips and they are phenomenal,” said Councilwoman Becky Wynn, standing in as mayor for the meeting. “I encourage all our citizens to try [these chips] and tell their friends.”
Comedian Jeff Foxworthy was initially sought simply to endorse the product, McDonough said.
“He not only wanted to endorse the product, but he also wanted to get involved,” he said.
