FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Reaping Nature Educational Outreach Foundation announced the winners of its fourth annual America Recycles Day contest for kids at the Five Points Challenge 5K pre-race dinner on Nov. 15.
Reaping Nature received 87 entries from five elementary schools, namely Whitlow, Coal Mountain, Chestatee, Sharon, Johns Creek and Cornerstone Schools.
The contest’s theme was the honey bee because bees of all kinds are on the decline in population.
In written, drawn or photographed format, entries showed why the honey bee is important to Georgia and included one reason why bees might be on the decline.
Entries also needed to include Reaping Nature’s mascot, Echo the Squirrel.
Evan Lipinski won in the ages 8 and under category, with Riley Barker and Meghan Reddy placing in second and third place.
In the ages 9 to 12 category, Elena Pope and Kristen Dickey placed first, followed by Izzy Busse and Emily Fitzpatrick.
Prizes were donated by Premier Surplus, Sawnee Woman’s Club, Reaping Nature, Stars and Strikes, Windermere Golf Club and Chattahoochee Nature Center.
