CUMMING, Ga. — A man suspected of stealing a woman’s purse ran to a nearby hotel to hide, according to a Cumming Police incident report.

At about 1 p.m. Feb. 10, officers were told the suspect took the purse from a woman at Home Depot, 1000 Market Place Boulevard, and was seen running to the Hampton Inn off Buford Highway.

Forsyth County Sheriff’s deputies located the suspect, who had barricaded himself in one of the hotel rooms.

Officers were going to return the stolen purse, but the loss prevention officer at Home Depot said there was no “purse snatching.”

The suspect and a woman were instead shoplifting.

They were caught shoplifting and the man took the woman’s purse, which had the stolen items inside it, and ran.

The loss prevention officer said the stolen items fell out of the purse.

The suspect ran across Buford Highway, took off his jacket and threw it into a trashcan at the BP gas station before hiding out at the Hampton Inn.

The two were cited for misdemeanor shoplifting and given a criminal trespass warning.
