Police pursuit hits pole in Roswell, driver flees on foot

ROSWELL, Ga. – A Sandy Springs pursuit of a suspected drunk driver Feb. 2 ended in Roswell when the driver crashed into a pole.

Sandy Springs police noticed the vehicle driven by Robert L. Richards, 29, of Park Creek Drive, Alpharetta, was weaving on Ga. 400. When police turned on the blue lights to pull him over, he did not stop and instead continued on to Holcomb Bridge Road where he exited and turned east. Police stopped the pursuit, but continued following Richards.

Richards lost control of his vehicle near Scott Road and hit a power pole, knocking the pole down. He then allegedly tried to run away from the accident when he was caught by Roswell and Sandy Springs police.

Richards was charged with fleeing from police, driving too fast for conditions, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road, running a red light, failure to maintain lane, DUI, driving on a suspended license and hit and run.
