PTA hosts Taste of Holcomb Bridge Middle School in Roswell

Annual event celebrates cultures from around world

ROSWELL, Ga. – What type of salad is served in Iran? In which countries is French spoken?

Families learned the answers to these questions and many more at the annual Taste of Holcomb Bridge Feb. 28, which took place at Holcomb Bridge Middle School.

Hosted by the PTA, 22 cultures were represented, including Lithuania, Haiti, the African Ivory Coast, Cuba, Ireland, Japan, France, Germany, Russia, Italy, Jamaica, Canada, Spain, Columbia, Mexico and the U.S.

Students shared their cultures through food, music and dance performances, celebrating the many different traditions, ethnicities and customs represented in the area.

“This event is yet another way to celebrate our diversity and international representation right in our own neighborhood,” said Principal Joy Schroerlucke. “We have 34 countries represented at Holcomb Bridge Middle School alone. Who needs to travel when you can learn so much from each other right here?”

While all families in the community were invited, rising sixth-grade families from River Eves, Hillside and Esther Jackson Elementary schools were especially encouraged to attend.

“This was the first event we attended at Holcomb Bridge Middle School,” said Kim Thompson, one of the organizers. “It was a fun and relaxed way to spend time at the middle school before our oldest son started in the fall. And now our youngest will start next fall.”
