CUMMING, Ga. — Forsyth County students with the gift of gab will be going head to head this month for a chance to win scholarship money.
The Optimist International Oratorical, a program sponsored by the Optimist Club is designed to help students gain experience in public speaking and provide them with an opportunity to compete for college scholarships. Forsyth County has the largest Oratorical Contest in any country covered by Optimist International. This year 4,886 students are writing speeches.
The finals for this year’s competition will be March 14 at the Forsyth County Board of Education, 1120 Dahlonega Highway at 6 p.m.
A male and female student will be chosen to advance to the zone level and then on to state. The winner of the state level receives a $2,500 scholarship.
