MILTON, Ga. – Online dating can be dangerous, as one Milton resident found out May 7, after her “boyfriend” allegedly scammed her out of nearly $5,000.

The victim told police she was dating a man called “Tonni Miller” of Suwanee, whom she had met online. He told her he was going on a trip to Africa and needed some money.

When she refused, he suggested that his uncle deposit money in her account that she could then wire to him. This, she agreed to do. Shortly after, a check was deposited in her account for $28,000. Of this, she sent Miller the $4,571 he requested. The victim’s bank then informed him the $28,000 check bounced and she is stuck for the money she sent the scammer.
