ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The intersection of Old Milton Parkway and Ga. 400 will get very busy by the end of the year, as the mega-development Avalon opens for business and Gwinnett Technical College begins construction.
To help handle this traffic increase, an additional turn lane will be created to the Ga. 400 northbound off ramp. This will create an exit with two right and two left turn lanes. Currently, there are three lanes with the middle lane acting as both a left and right turn lane.
At its meeting Monday, the City Council approved a contract with Baldwin Paving Group for $399,000 to build the project.
The improvements would come at no cost to the city, except in the form of man-hours. Instead, the Georgia Department of Transportation and North Fulton Community Improvement District (CID) would pay.
Construction will begin immediately and is expected to be finished by September – just in time for the opening of Avalon.
“We will be prepared when Avalon opens up in November,” said Alpharetta Director of Public Works Pete Sewczwicz.
The council approved the new improvements unanimously.
