Northview finally wins shootout, edging Central 40, 33

Plays Pope next for state playoff berth



CUMMING, Ga. – Northview was involved in another shootout last Friday night at Forsyth Central, but this time the game ended with the Titans putting the most points on the scoreboard.

Led by the tailback Terrence Upshaw and quarterback D.J. Pearson, the Titans outscored the Bulldogs 40-33 to finish third in Region 7-AAAAA East.

Northview (3-2 in the region, 3-6 overall) will play Friday night at Pope, second in the West sub-region, with the winner advancing to the state playoffs. The teams played during the regular season, with Pope (3-1, 6-3) winning 45-27 in a game in which the Titans were competitive well into the second half.

Upshaw rushed for 152 yards and five touchdowns for the Titans. Pearson completed 21 of 26 passes for 246 yards and a 12-yard touchdown pass to Matt Biondich.

The Bulldogs piled up 350 yards rushing, but were limited to 13 points in the second half. Forsyth Central led three times in the first half, but the Titans answered each time on drives capped by short scoring runs by Upshaw to lead 21-20 at the intermission.

The Titans put together a long scoring drive ending with the Pearson to Biondich pass to start the third period, and Upshaw’s fourth touchdown made it 34-20.

The Bulldogs scored, recovered an onside kick and scored again, but missed the PAT closing to 34-33.

The Titans responded with another drive capped by Upshaw’s final touchdown run midway through the final period, and stopped Forsyth Central near midfield to preserve the win.
