FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — The North Georgia Lady Celtics basketball team slam-dunked the Atlanta AAU Division I Super Regional Championships at the eighth-grade ladies’ division in their first tournament of this year’s spring season.
The Lady Celtics dominated the championship with four wins and one loss over the weekend with a stellar performance in the championship game beating their No. 1 rival team by a score of 44-35.
The team average margin of victory was over 20 points per game against the local Atlanta teams and one from Alabama.
This victory will send them to the AAU Nationals in July at the Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, Fla. Until then, the Lady Celtics have a full schedule of eight tournaments this spring.
They are led by their fearless head coach Bruce Kidwell and assistant coaches Joe Gazza and Rick Poff.
Kidwell called the team “a great group of ladies that will continue to be fun to watch as they get better and better in Forsyth County.”
The all-star team is made up from the top players from the Forsyth County middle schools of Riverwatch – Kara Kidwell; Lakeside – Mari Jonassen, Olivia Poff and Kirsten Dalberg; Vickery Creek – Casey Gazza and Abby Quincy; South Forsyth – Brittany Wagner, Leah Cote, Amanda Clarke and Molly Williams and Piney Grove – Emily Dreslinski.
The Lady Celtics will play for their high school teams in the upcoming winter season.
