North Fulton Community Charities hosts annual coat drive in Roswell

Helps hundreds of families

ROSWELL, Ga. – North Fulton Community Charities kicked off its holiday program Oct. 27 with its annual coat drive at their Roswell location.

The drive was set up in a store format, with volunteers from approximately 15 different organizations serving as “personal shoppers” to guide families through the store. Each family collected one coat, one scarf, one hat and a pair of gloves for each family member, as well as a pair of socks and a sweatshirt for the family.

The coat drive is the beginning of NFCC’s annual holiday program, which includes additional Thanksgiving and Christmas events.

“We do Thanksgiving, which includes two grocery bags of food and a turkey or a gift card to buy a turkey,” said NFCC Assistant Director Jenna Purdy.

For the Christmas portion of the holiday program, volunteers can sponsor a family and purchase presents from that family’s wish list. Families can also participate in Santa Shop, where they collect presents through a shopping atmosphere similar to the coat drive.

The drive served about 300 families with over 3,400 children last year, and NFCC expected to see a similar turnout this year. They also collected over 1,500 coats last year through previous sponsors, companies, churches, schools and individuals.
