MILTON, Ga. — The Milton High School marching band received the top honor of High Grand Champion for musicianship in the 2012 Creekview Classic Marching Competition on Oct. 27.

They were also honored with the Gold Grand Champion award for their class at a ceremony held at Creekview High School in Canton.

The Milton band performed their show, “Wired” and competed against 22 other schools.

This is a strong win for the band, whose director, Chris Shumick, is new to the school.

“I’m so proud of these kids,” Shumick said. “This was definitely our best performance of the year.”

Shumick doesn’t take all of the credit, noting that the percussion director, Mark Kapral, and guard directors, Bobby Jones and Kelly Theilemann, helped in preparing and instructing the students.

Jeanne Borowski, mother of band member Jenna Borowski, said she is thrilled with the program’s success.

“These kids have worked hard,” Borowski said. “It’s amazing to see how they’ve come together and worked with a new band director to achieve these honors.”
