JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – The opening film of Johns Creek’s Movies at Newtown Park series will be a little like watching a home movie with the June 8 showing of “Parental Guidance.” Part of the movie was filmed at the city’s Ocee Park.
“Parental Guidance,” rated PG, is about an old-school grandfather, Artie (Billy Crystal), and his over accommodating wife, Diane (Bette Midler), who come to babysit their three grandkids when their hovering and doting parents (Marisa Tomei and Tom Everett Scott) go out of town.
Hilarity ensues when modern issues run into Artie’s and Diane’s old views of parenting.
A major scene was filmed at Ocee Park where Artie goes ballistic at discovering the kids are playing a baseball game with no outs and no winners.
Movies at Newtown Park is an outdoor series of three movies recently shown in theaters. Other movie dates are July 13 and Aug. 24.
Movies start at dusk.
Families are invited to bring blankets and relax, eat and drink and let the kids play before the movie. People usually arrive a couple of hours before the movies start so that youngsters can enjoy face-painting, inflatable moonwalks, children’s activities, contests, giveaways and entertainment. Food and drinks are for sale.
No alcohol or pets please. Admission is free.
Movies at Newtown Park is sponsored by Northside Hospital.
