Milton man confused with brother arrested

MILTON, Ga. – A case of mistaken identity turned out costly Nov. 8 for a Milton man.

A police officer was on patrol on Deerfield Parkway when he noticed a vehicle ahead of him with the driver sticking his head out the window as he drove, apparently because the windshield was fogged up. A check on the tags returned the owner, Yurly Zaytsev, was wanted for burglary, fraud and traffic offenses.

The suspect car pulled into a nearby gas station and the driver fled inside by the time to police car caught up with the suspect. A witness said the driver has asked “if the cops were still outside,” then went into the restroom.

Questioning the suspect, he turned out to be Yurly’s brother, Vyachslav, 22, of Keyingham Way, Milton, who said the officer had the wrong person in custody. A check of Vyachslav’s name turned up another warrant, this time for probation violation from Covington. He initially denied this, and then allegedly admitted to the offense.

Vyachslav was arrested on the warrant as well as giving police false information.
