MILTON, Ga. – Milton captured three state championships last Saturday, running their total of high school titles to five this spring and six in 2012.
The Eagles swept both boys and girls Class AAAAA lacrosse titles, with the Milton girls winning the championship game in soccer.
Milton previously swept the boys and girls golf championships, with the Eagles’ non-spring title coming in boys basketball.
The two girls teams won in a doubleheader on the Milton field Saturday, while the boys captured their lacrosse title at Lassiter.
Both girls teams won decisively in the finals, with the lacrosse team coasting past rival Roswell 18-4 and the soccer team also winning against a North Fulton opponent, shutting out Northview 4-0. The Milton boys lacrosse team needed overtime to get past Lassiter 10-9.
Northview had shut out its four playoff opponents to reach the finals and held the Eagles scoreless for 52 minutes in the girls soccer finals. But Milton scored four times in the final 28 minutes to secure the first state title for the Eagles in girls soccer.
Sanna Levine scored the first goal for the Eagles on an assist from Kala Faulkner. Imani Walker made it 2-0 with 17 minutes to play, and Becca von Bereghy and Anna Hilpertshauser added the final two goals.
Tori Stajduhar was in goal for Milton, which finished the season 22-1, outscoring its five playoff opponents 24-2. Northview ended the season 13-7-1, with goalkeeper Taylor Erickson going more than 4 ½ games without allowing a goal in the playoffs.
A state championship has become routine for the Milton girls in lacrosse, with the most recent title the team’s seventh in the last eight years. Milton has not lost to a Georgia opponent since Chattahoochee defeated the Eagles in the 2009 championship game.
Milton finished the season 20-4, with all its losses coming to out-of-state opponents.
After Roswell took a 1-0 lead, the Eagles scored the next 14 goals. Annie Ruland scored five goals for Milton, Amanda Lockwood had four and Lydia Cassada three.
Roswell (13-5-1) got two goals each from Mackenzie Schoen and Zoe Bogar.
The Milton boys lacrosse team won its second state title in three years, both coming on Lassiter’s field. The Eagles (19-3) won when Evans Lockwood scored less than two minutes into sudden death overtime.
Milton (19-3) led 7-3 before Lassiter rallied to send the game into overtime. Justin Newell scored three goals for the Eagles and Lockwood, Collin Hall and Brandon Davis added two goals each.
