MILTON, Ga. — Milton resident Evan Jones received an early Christmas present in the form of an offer to portray Young George and Pete Bailey in Gypsy Theatre Company’s professional stage production of “It’s a Wonderful Life” in December at the Ferst Center for the Arts at Georgia Tech.
Jones, a sixth-grader at Northwestern Middle School, has been performing locally and training since the age of five. Acting and singing are his passions, and he said he is honored to be included in this talented cast. After being one of the top 12 finalists for the role of Flick in the NYC touring production of “A Christmas Story” in September, his passion ignited and he began auditioning for professional shows in Atlanta.
Performing as Young George and Pete Bailey will mark his professional stage debut.
The production tells the story of “everyman” George Bailey and is based on Frank Capra’s classic film along with a dozen Christmas songs. The show is directed by Mercury, and will be performed from Dec. 17 through Dec. 29.
“We are so excited for Evan and so humbled to have him included in such a fantastic production,” said Lori Jones, Evan’s mother. “He started in an after school drama program in kindergarten and with the help of many instructors and mentors, he is ready for this next step. His dad and I are thrilled for him and are also excited about his future, whether it be on Broadway or in film.”
Jones can be seen at Northwestern Middle School in the upcoming production of “Guys and Dolls” Nov. 14 and 15.
