MILTON, Ga. — The Milton Fire Department is scheduled to hold several events during Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 7 through Oct. 13.

The department will visit kindergarten students at Crabapple Crossing, Summit Hill and Birmingham Falls elementary schools.

There is also a public event at 10 a.m. Oct. 6 at Home Depot, 5300 Windward Parkway.

Educational programs for Milton’s youth are ongoing for the fire department and include interactive entertainment to keep children involved.

The most popular program is the Milton Fire Safety Clowns program.

The program is designed to teach basic fire and life safety skills in a kid-friendly format.

The program is coordinated by Capt. Thom Brown of the Milton Fire Department and features five clowns: Cotton, Popcorn, Bo-Bo, Pickles and French Fry.

“We as firefighters look at these young students and our community as extended family,” Brown said.

“We instill fire safety tips such as knowing your emergency number, stop drop and roll, get out and stay out and having a meeting place outside so our families know what to do in the event of an emergency and remain safe.”

The fire department also offers a variety of educational programs for Milton adults.

Programs are tailored to meet the needs of the individual or business requesting the class and include fire extinguisher training, general home fire safety, evaluation planning and training, home fire and disaster planning.

At fire station No. 43, the city of Milton also holds free CPR classes at 10 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month for Milton residents and businesses.

Registration for CPR Saturdays and information regarding the programs offered by the fire department can be found at www.cityofmiltonga.us.
