JOHNS CREEK – Chase Clark kicked a 21-yard field goal on the game’s final play to give Mount Pisgah a 17-16 victory at home last Friday night over Our Lady of Mercy.
The Patriots (3-0) trailed 16-0 at the half, with the Bobcats (0-2) scoring on runs of 43 and 21 yards by quarterback Jameson Vest and a safety.
Patrick Messinger returned an interception 46 yards for the first Mount Pisgah touchdown, and caught a 9-yard pass from Aaron Winchester after the Patriots recovered a fumble. Winchester, who rushed for 114 yards, connected on key third-down passes on the drive to Messinger and Ian Ainsworth.
Trailing 16-14 with less than five minutes to play, the Patriots drove 80 yards, with Winchester rushing for 46 of that total and Messinger added 20 yards on two carries. The Patriots’ coaches signaled for a timeout just before time expired, and Clark came on to kick the winning field goal.
