Local kids compete in debate tourney

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – On Saturday, May 11, Ivy Bridge Academy held its first local tournament for public forum debate. Thirty-six students registered from three area schools, including Hopewell Middle (Fulton), Riverwatch Middle (Forsyth) and Ivy Bridge Academy (Johns Creek). Their topic for debate was the war on drugs in Latin America.

“All four finalists worked very hard and it paid off,” said coach Mike Lacy. “I’m very proud of all of our students and their accomplishments.”

As a member of the National Junior Forensic League, Ivy Bridge Academy shares the vision that every child in the United States should be empowered to become an effective communicator, a critical thinker and an ethical leader in a democratic society. The academy offers three opportunities for summer debate camps in June and July.
