Letter to Editor: The Drake House blessed at holidays

We wish to offer our most sincere thanks to such a caring community who supports the work of the Drake House.

Open just over six years, our small staff and large volunteer team of over 400 work to offer emergency housing and personal empowerment plans to homeless mothers and their minor children who have lived, worshipped or worked in our North Fulton community.

Thanks to such strong support from our community, we celebrated an outpouring of time, treasure and talent over this holiday season.

Our families received a modest supply of gifts for their household, new pajamas and shoes for the kids and a holiday dinner basket at Christmas.

Meanwhile, moms enjoyed a crafts night making gifts for loved ones and the children ‘shopped’ for new gifts for mom, that were then wrapped by holiday volunteers.

Each of our 16 apartments had a new, fresh Christmas tree, a homemade wreath for their door and a visit from a jolly old elf who came in on a fire truck rather than his sleigh.

We had two families move in the week before Christmas, but our merry volunteers made sure that they were settled in and decorated for the season. Welcome baskets awaited their arrival.

It was a good December. Our charitable giving was above our expectations, and we want to share our thanks to such a giving and generous community. Best wishes for a Happy New Year.
