Large, fake check raises red flags in Alpharetta

ALPHARETTA, Ga. – A fake $42,500 check and some marijuana landed a man in jail April 11.

According to police, Frederick Lamar Scott, 42, of Duluth, drove into the drive-through lane of the Renasant Bank on South Main Street and attempted to pass a fake check. Tellers said the $42,500 check appeared forged because it lacked basic security features. They double checked with the business on the check and found it was forged. Police stopped Scott as he was in the drive-through. Inside his car, they found a small amount of marijuana.

Scott was arrested for third-degree forgery and possession of marijuana.
