FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Forsyth County Commissioners gave preliminary approval to the parks and recreation department to lease 30 new parking spaces to Lambert High School students.
At their March 26 work session the board agreed to lease 30 spaces at the Old Atlanta Recreation Center, 810 Nichols Road in Suwanee.
Jerry Kinsey, director of parks and recreation, told commissioners each parking space will be leased for $300 for the year.
“Staff has been looking during the day and they think we can add these additional 30 spaces,” Kinsey told board members.
In August, commissioners approved 50 spaces. The department expects to raise $24,000 per school year when all 80 parking spots are filled.
Under the approved parking permit, students are told that "parking is a privilege, not a right, which is offered to students at Lambert High School for a nominal fee."
In agreeing to park at the recreation center, students also allow law enforcement and school officials to examine and search their cars at any time, as is required by the Forsyth County Board of Education rules related to parking.
Students — juniors and seniors — and their parents are required to sign the parking permit, which clears the recreation center of vandalism, theft or damages to cars or their contents.
Lambert students pay $105 annually to park on school property, said Jennifer Caracciolo, a school district spokeswoman. Outside of the school, students can park at Sharon Elementary School and property owners along Old Atlanta Road.
