JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Johns Creek High School’s 2012-13 theme “Service Before Self” inspired the 2013 basketball cheerleaders to make their third annual philanthropy project, “Cheer with Heart,” a rousing success.
The junior varsity and varsity cheerleaders raised $2,125 for the American Heart Association - Greater Southeast Affiliate.
The purpose of this event, held during the week of Jan. 22-29, was to raise awareness for heart disease and to raise funds for the American Heart Association’s “Make it Your Mission to Fight Heart Disease in Women” campaign.
Heart-healthy tips were broadcast over the announcements each day, and cheerleaders sold T-shirts (sponsored by Gwinnett Medical Center-Duluth) and Red Dress pins during all lunches. Sales continued at the Tuesday home basketball games against West Forsyth.
During halftime of the girls’ game, Chick-fil-A at Alpharetta Commons helped the cheerleaders continue raising funds for the American Heart Association through a $1 shoot-out. All shoot-out participants were given a coupon for a free Chick-fil-A chicken biscuit. During the boys’ halftime, winners were announced for the raffle sponsored by Gwinnett Medical Center-Duluth.
