ATLANTA – Senate President Pro Tempore David Shafer (R – Duluth) was recently named “Georgian of the Year” by James Magazine. Shafer has Senate districts in Johns Creek and is a member of the Fulton legislative delegation.
Georgian of the Year is an honor bestowed by the magazine to a business, civic or political leader whose work has generated positive change in Georgia.
“We chose David Shafer as one of our two ‘Georgians of the Year’ because of his extraordinary career, his considerable influence in matters related to state government and his potential to remain a substantial leader in Georgia for many years to come,” said Matt Towery, publisher of James Magazine and CEO of InsiderAdvantage.
“For us, he was a logical, and in fact, a very obvious choice for 2013 Georgian of the Year,” Towery said.
Shafer said he was honored to receive the recognition.
“I am a longtime reader of James Magazine, and I have always appreciated its insightful coverage of Georgia politics,” Shafer said.
Shafer was featured in the March/April 2013 issue alongside fellow “Georgian of the Year” Attorney General Sam Olens.
James Magazine also named its “Most Influential” Georgians in the same issue, including a number of federal and state elected officials.
