ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Hopewell Middle School’s Jr. Beta Club students participated April 26 in the Alpharetta Relay for Life event, which benefited the American Cancer Society.
The HMS Jr. Beta students raised $10,419 this year. Top individual fundraisers were Summer McDonald, who raised $800; Hailey Farbman, who raised $470; Amelia Milender, who raised $430; and Cynthia Messinger, who raised $400.
The students were able to support fellow classmates Maggie Thielens and Colynn Vacko, whose parents are cancer survivors. They cheered them on as they made the first survivor lap indicating the start of the event.
Jr. Betas stayed up for 12 hours because cancer never sleeps. Under the direction of sponsors Erin Bolling and Stephanie Sosebee, the Hopewell Jr. Beta Club has raised about $50,000 for the American Cancer Society over nine years.
