Homeless man steals items at Spirit Baptist Church in Cumming

CUMMING, Ga. — A homeless man was allowed to temporarily stay in a church’s basement, and several items went missing, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s incident report.

The pastor of Spirit Baptist Church, 6910 Nix Road, told deputies he let a homeless man stay in the basement starting Nov. 1 “until he got back on his feet again.”

About two weeks later, the pastor noticed his Black and Decker drill, 200-piece drill bit set and a leather jacket were missing. The items totaled $300 in value and belonged to the pastor and not the church.

When the pastor confronted the man, he denied taking them.

On Nov. 24, the pastor asked the man to leave, and he did.

The pastor said he looked for his items at pawn shops, and found his drill and drill bit at a pawn shop in Dawsonville.

The pawnshop attendant said it was pawned on Nov. 11.
