FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — The Lett family got to celebrate Christmas in a new home.
Habitat for Humanity – North Central Georgia held the last dedication ceremony of the year for the Lett family on Saturday, Dec. 21. The home is located on Leigh Lane, in Gainesville (Forsyth County).
This is the third home that Habitat has built on this street with two more homes planned for 2014.
The home was built in partnership with Michelle Lett, who has two children, Xavier, 16, and Hailey, 13. The Lett family had faced many hardships. They are thrilled to have a home to call their own.
Many friends, family members and community members came out for the ceremony to celebrate this special time with the Lett family.
They are thrilled to be able to move into their new home before Christmas.
“This home is a blessing for me and my children,” said Michelle Lett. “Thank you to all of the sponsors, volunteers and Habitat staff who helped make this miracle happen.”
The home was built with support of several community organizations including; Christ the King Lutheran Church, Cumming First United Methodist Church, First Baptist Cumming, Dana and Wanda Karschner, Lambert High School, New York Life, North Georgia United Methodist Housing and Homeless Council, Rachford Charitable Trust and South Forsyth High School.
Habitat for Humanity – North Central Georgia is a non-profit, Christian housing ministry that builds simple homes for purchase by low-income families who demonstrate a capacity for responsible homeownership.
Since its inception in 1995, 250 homes have been completed and over 850 family members have been served in North Fulton, Cherokee and Forsyth/Dawson counties. Each family is required to attend 10 educational classes and perform 300 sweat equity hours.
Families earn between 25 percent and 60 percent of the Atlanta area median income and purchase their homes from Habitat, which provides them with a 25-year, no-interest loan.
Family members work side by side with the volunteers, sponsors and Habitat staff to build their homes. These families not only get to experience the pride of homeownership, but also know their lives will be changed forever.
