Groovy event to benefit Family Haven May 4

CUMMING, Ga. – Forsyth County’s Family Haven is hosting “Back to Woodstock,” a fundraising event to benefit their shelter and victims’ needs.

The event takes place Friday, May 4 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at The Reid Barn, 6844 Majors Road in Cumming. Admission is $25.

Food will be provided by Tam’s Backstage, and live music by the Old School Horn Band, a live auction and a silent auction will take place.

“It’s a major fundraiser for us,” said Tara Hall, Family Haven executive director. “We reach out to so many people coming from various situations.”

The organization started two decades ago and serves the Forsyth County and North Fulton communities. Family Haven provides services for victims of domestic violence or other violent situations.

Hall said anyone who needs assistance from domestic abuse to human trafficking, Family Haven serves as a beacon of hope for them.

The objective is letting victims know that shelter life is a temporary stage and the shelter is there to help them anyway they can, she said.

Last year’s event topped $20,000 that went to victims and their children. Typically the facility is full with 27 beds and families can stay up to 90 days, so the needs are great to keep the facility functioning. Family Haven also has a thrift store where donations help the shelter’s victims.

“Domestic violence doesn’t discriminate,” Hall said. “It is everywhere.”
